M:Metrics has found a gender gap in people who download mobile games — men are twice as likely to download mobile games as women, despite the fact that both genders have the same proportion of people playing mobile games…assumedly those that come with the phone. In fact, although roughly a third of people play mobile games only about 1 in 30 pay to download one (4.4% of males and 2.3% of females). The gender discrepancy is put down to the type of games offered…”Of all the games being offered by carriers, 48 percent are sports and action/adventure titles, which our data shows are least appealing to women. Only 10 percent of games are arcade puzzle games like Tetris, and card games, which are universally popular, and the most common genres downloaded by women.”
