Blue Sphere Games “will release its plans for 2005 at Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles”, which isn’t incredibly interesting until you see some of the brands they will convert to mobile games..they’ve already announced games based on Mr Bean, the first being “Mr Bean mini Racer” — which anyone familiar with the show can imagine. Now they’ve announced games based on Coca-Cola (I shudder to think what that will be), Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels and Scott Adam’s Dilbert Cartoon.
The Discworld series is fantastic, and offers almost unlimited scope for games, and with a significantly large fan base so that any game will sell some copies, and if its good word will get around pretty quickly. Ditto with Dilbert…although a good game concept is slightly harder to come up with. Other brands grabbed by Blue Sphere include the popular UK children’s cartoon characters Dennis the Menace and Gnasher from the comic The Beano. They can do really well here, but they will be judged quite harshly — no-one is more critical of adaptations than a die-hard fan…
