Napster, whose stock has been hit severely today after Yahoo’s new discount music service, is now touting its ringtones as a major part of its strategy going ahead…
In its Q1 earnings call today, CFO Nand Gangwani and CEO Chris Gorog spoke at length of the company’s recent tie-up with Dwango, to launch Napstertones…both of them stressed that the ringtones store might help in upselling the consumer to the online subscription service. Both of them also mentioned the need to be on the mobile carrier decks, and how Napster is among the most recognized brands in music and hence will translate well into mobile. of course none of them addresses the issue of the difference in pricing of the online and mobile stories, and whether any attempt will be made to rationalize that…
