Nokia will make the air interface specifications (which specify how mobile TV terminals interconnect with the network end of the mobile TV solution) publicaly available for interested parties. Nokia is backing the DVB-H standard for mobile broadcast TV.
“Operators and service providers want to know how the interoperability of terminals from different vendors can be ensured. By making this interface specification public, we are emphasizing our commitment to open standards and interoperability as a means to enable positive market development “, says Richard Sharp, Vice President, Rich Media, Nokia. Of course, interoperability will only be assured if other mobile manufacturers use the specification…but DVB-H is based on open standards anyway. Maybe there’s something technical I’m missing here…
