Audible is opening up a UK office, with a launch party in London this June 15 (I might be there…am in London that week for the MEM conference), and will make a $2 million investment in it, and the new site Audible.co.uk, according to Don Katz, CEO, in the Q1 earnings conference call…He expects UK to be a significant revenue and profit center, and expects UK to be cash flow positive by 2006…
He went on to say that it is no coincidence that the European audiences are more mobile savvy, and many more memory rich phones in the market. That means that Audible may have mobile offerings in the UK market soon [that’s my paraphrase]…
The company already has a major deal with BBC, with access to a large number of audio books from it…
(
) Katz also talked at length about the UK market, in the conference call…about the readiness of the market, the iPod growth, the business characteristics, and the ramp to wireless..download the audio clip of his comments from here (2.30 minutes)…
