Yahoo’s video search is getting out of beta today, and it has tied up with content providers like CBS News, MTV, Reuters, iFilm, and others to include their video clips within its searchable database. Also, Yahoo said that it will allow video creators to send links of their content via RSS for inclusion in its database.
The activity in this field is heating up (see our note earlier today: “Singingfish Looking For Deals; Parent Time Warner A Possibility“), with players like Google (which has been signing up providers, though the service still doesn’t really throw up video in results), MSN, AOL (through Singingfish), Blinkx, GoFish, ShadowTV and other startups in the field…
I am underwhelmed by all these services, for now…Yahoo’s a bit delusional if it thinks the “product is ready for prime time”, as Jeff Karnes, director of media search at Yahoo says in this story.
It is still early days, and until the content issues get solved, this will remain an experimental market.
