Oops: MLBAM Suspends Nationals.TV Offer

Never mind. Turns out MLBAM isn’t actually sure whether it has the rights to stream games live in the local market so would-be Nationals.TV subs are now being redirected to MLB.com.
The “oops” press release went out a few hours after the announcement. (Thanks, Greg.) MLBAM “has been informed that a distribution deal announced last Friday may preclude the distribution via the interactive media of Nationals games in their home territory. As such, MLBAM has suspended its Nationals.TV offer until further notice.”
MLBAM has a lot of ideas and plans — and MLB has a lot of rightsholders, some of whom aren’t too thrilled with those plans. Tony Vinciquerra, head of Fox Cable Networks, expressed concerns about MLBAM’s plans to offer mobile live game video during an interview with paidContent last month: “It is exciting and we want to be part of it — but we’ve got to be part of it, not just be lorded over.”
