As expected, Microsoft has launched an IP-licensing effort, aimed at entrepreneurs and small businesses. In exchange for its technology, Microsoft hopes to get a financial stake in the companies that participate.
The program, called Microsoft Intellectual Property Venture, will be administered along with VCs…it began today with a menu of 20 Microsoft-developed technologies that are available for licensing.
Among them, software for mobile video communications code-named Portrait, technology for building online communities called Wallop, and another called LaunchTile for single-handed navigation of mobile devices.
ZDNet: Microsoft touted support for its licensing effort from a number of venture capital firms, including Advanced Technology Ventures, OVP Venture Partners, Insight Venture Partners and MDV-Mohr, Davidow Ventures.
