The MultiMediaCard Association (MMCA) has announced it has signed a technical collaboration agreement with the Open Mobile Alliance to design secure removable media based on OMA’s digital rights management…the two organizations will collaborate to define an open standard for secure removable media within the OMA DRM framework. Hopefully this will encourage copyright holders to allow their content to be saved to various devices. Equally hopefully we won’t see a repeat of the previous standards fiasco, where a consortium of companies with patents required for the OMA DRM standard set some excessive license fees for the industry…
