Often, stories that I think will bring a surge in comments in that particular forum don’t even net one reponse. This one is different. I think the comment thread at the Online Journalism Review about two Scripps’ not-so-modest proposal that newsrooms now relying on AP should form a new P2P co-op is now longer than the original. They include examples of p2p coops already underway around the U.S. — NEWSapE.com and in Connecticut, where a group of dailies have been sharing copy for three years. Then there’s Doug Fisher’s even lengthier post about the “misguided” idea. Fisher: “Some parts of their rant sound like desperate people seeking desperate answers and easy fixes.” Alan Mutter has some advice for AP: “The karma-challenged AP can do itself a lot of good by supporting, not hindering, the News Napster Network.”
I gather a follow-up at OJR from AP may be en route.
