From the creators of Basecamp comes Backpack, a Web-based personal information manager for individuals and small busineses. (It’s described on the site as “Basecamp’s little brother.”) This isn’t content the way we usually define it but user-generated content that requires constant site interaction and generates stickiness can be valuable for advertisers. It’s also a social media play; Backpack subs can elect to change or share each other’s content. The ad-supported, free version only includes 5 pages and 10 active reminders; upgrades are available for $5 to $19 monthly. Pay subs won’t see ads under the current configuration.
At a glance: It was easy to register and set up when I tried a few minutes ago. I gather the site was slammed earlier when it went live — a problem too many launches are experiencing despite best-laid plans.
