ATTimes: Sales of handsets that are able to view Korea’s version of broadcast TV on mobile phones (DMB) have fallen short of expectations…the Samsung phone currently on the market retails for 850,000 won (US$847) and TU Media (a subsidiary of SK Telecom) has no plans to subsidize the handset to encourage sales. Despite this, TU Media said it plans to sell 600,000 handsets by the end of the year — with 24,000 sold so far…good luck…”Though SK Telecom has pinned its hope on the commercial launch of satellite-based mobile TV service, some analysts have said the company may face an uphill battle due to a seemingly fierce competition with broadcasters, equipment difficulties and a lack of “killer applications”.”
