Sohu Wireless Group Rebounds

Chinese net portal Sohu.com reported a 47 percent drop in Q1 profits, but said revenue from its wireless value-added services rose for the first time in a year and a half. After five straight quarter of mobile revs declie, this was a turnaround quarter for the portal: it had a stronger-than-expected $6 million in revenues and particularly fast growth of 38 percent from WAP services.
“Wireless has turned the corner,” said Sohu.com founder and CEO Charles Zhang in a conference call from Beijing. “We have left last year’s transitional and regulatory issues behind us. We expect first quarter results put us on a firm footing for the business year.”
