Nokia, Discovery To ‘Revolutionise’ Documentary Production

Discovery Networks Asia has signed a multi-million dollar regional advertising sales and sponsorship alliance with Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia intended to allow ‘mobile filmmaking.’ It starts with Nokia sponsoring six up-and-coming Chinese film makers, but the aim is for the two companies to “collaborate to reinvent the way people view filmmaking by making it more accessible to its viewers and consumers. By tapping Discovery’s expertise in documentary filmmaking coupled with Nokia’s technology in imaging, both companies “will launch a new genre in Asia – mobile filmmaking – and bring this initiative to a whole new level.”

Which sounds cool, but the line “giving consumers the ability to create their own personal documentaries with their Nokia phones” leads me to suspect its just promoting using Nokia phones to create mobile video, and Discovery is just an advertising platform… I hope I’m wrong, I hope the two companies have teamed up to develope something unique and special for the mobile platform.
