‘Simple Games’ Rule Mobile Charts

Tetris“The Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association compiled mobile game data for the first time from 2004…It produces the official video and computer games charts across all formats weekly…Tetris was the top game for eight months. Other big-hitters were Namco’s Pac-Man and Iomo’s Pub Pool.” This is hardly surprising, despite the hype that mobile phones are becoming just like consoles. It’s not just the small screen and tricky button pushing that promote simple games, it’s the fact that mobile games tend to be played in spare time. If someone is going to sit down and play a game for the purpose of playing the game (rather than just killing time) they’ll boot up a computer or console. It should also be pointed out that games such as Tetris and Pac Man have an addictive appeal that still affects children today and has nothing to do with high-tech graphics.

Mobile games will truly come into their own when the mobile and multiplayer elements are combined to create games that are not available anywhere else and suit how people use mobile phones.
