“The Finns and Koreans are at war over mobile TV…Both sides have been showcasing competing technologies at the MIPTV-Milia digital content fair in Cannes.” Korean companies are touting their Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) technology as the best for mobile TV, arguing it has “superiority of converged multimedia services via mobile reception”. Meanwhile, the Finns are of course backing DVB-H, led by mobile heavyweight Nokia. Let’s not forget Qualcomm’s MediaFLO — there hasn’t been much mention of that lately…
Also at the show, Israel’s Chooz won the MILIA / MIPTV “Best Interactive Format” award for an interactive celle-novella where users read a daily chapter of a detective story (30 episodes), then play the interactive game which can include interrogating suspects. The game — “Who Kidnapped Rachel B.?” — utilizes WAP, MMS, SMS, Video and IVR.
