Mobile gaming has been compared to the early years of PC gaming…”It is reminiscent of the early 90s, when PC gaming was about to break. For years, games publishers paraded a string of unremarkable titles to disinterested journalists. Then Doom happened, and the world changed forever.” It got a lot more gory, for a start… First, there are some problems to overcome, including the fragmentation of handset platforms, which is exacerbated by the fact that the development time of games is long enough that a handset may become obselete before the game is finished.
But this slipped by almost unnoticed: “iFone has just released Lemmings, developed by 8-Bit Games”. I’m sure everyone who knows what an Amiga is remembers the game, and the little “OH NO!” the critters gave out just before they blew up…Fantastic game…according to 8-bit business development director Dave Vout the “killer app” of mobile gaming will be “something that uses GPRS and the camera and person- to-person communication to its fullest.” (from Textually.org)
