It’s not an understatement to say that this is going to be a new goldmine for wireless operators.” It’s an understatement, but it may be an overstatement…ABI Research has released a report predicting that “digital video broadcast networks” (one-to-many mobile television) will be a huge success when it launches in Japan and South Korea next month, and around the world in the near future. “Mobile operators will profit by providing “enhanced content”: over the cellular network, users can go back to the operator and buy “stuff” — ringtones, sports statistics, fan club materials and more — linked to the topic they’ve just viewed as TV. The list of revenue opportunities is huge.”
There are a lot of cross-sale opportunities, but it’s still unknown how much TV people will actually watch on a mobile, so predicting a goldmine is going out on a limb…
