The Online Editor leads AP’s news coverage for the online market, working with all news departments and directing the AP Digital news staff of editors, producers, designers and video editors. Responsible for the AP Online news report and AP CustomNews, and for the filing of other online services.
Works with AP’s news units to promote the importance of online services and assure that enterprise and spot coverage support the needs of Web users. Works closely with AP business units to implement new products and with the Services and Technology Department, which provides technical support to AP Digital and directly to Digital customers. Improves workflow, using resources at AP Digital and elsewhere in the company. Serves as primary news contact for members and customers.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Creativity, excellent news judgment and strong management and organizational skills. Ability to work across platforms with diplomacy and skill to make sure online needs are met. Ability to solve problems, plan and set strategy and design staff training programs. Skills in motivating staff, helping them reach goals and managing change in a fast-developing area. Excellent customer contact skills. Strong previous experience in Web news and production required.
