An interesting powerplay between aggregators and labels, with the artists in the middle, as usual. The labels are coming down hard on companies cutting direct deals with artists and developing and selling voicetones (the voice clips from these artists, as ringtones). Bryan Biniak, head of AGMobile, a division of American Greetings, narrated this interplay at a panel at Digital Hollywood earlier last week…
“You’ll see fewer and fewer artist-type direct deals…for labels, voice is voice, whether it is music or voice ringtones.”
