Audio: Coming to P Diddy’s Rescue: The MVNO Claim Discussed

At a panel on mobile music at Digital Hollywood, our transcript of P Diddy’s recent CTIA speech came up for discussion, and aren’t we glad…
Anyway, panelists included Jason Ford, GM of Wireless Games and Entertainment, Sprint; Bryan Biniak, head of AGMobile at American Greetings; Carolynne Schloeder, President, Moderati; Alex Conrad, COO of Dwango; and Matthew Feldman, CEO of Versaly Entertainment.
Most of the panelists came up to P Diddy’s defense:
Carolyn: “He’s saying he wants people to listen to what he chooses..he is not forcing anybody. They don’t have to buy what he sells.”
Matthew Feldman: “P Diddy is in a unique situation: he became an extremely popular brand even before the publishers and labels understood the ringtones space.” He can go around the labels, but any new artists coming out are already locked up and would have to go through the labels to exploit the mobile opportunity.
Bryan Biniak: A lot of celebrities out there are lining up to collect a big fat check, and a lot of people are throwing a lot of money. That caliber of talent, based upon where the market is right now, will command a seven-figure check…Another point: he has his own following, loyal customers, who will buy what he sells. If you’re able to aggregate those at one place, and tie it to a service, that is a big differentiator…
