Mobile Video Gets Ratings

Nielsen//NetRatings is “creating a ratings system to measure the number of people who are accessing news, entertainment and other services on their mobile phones”. It seems a little odd that a company is offering a service to track content that has to be tracked anyway so people are billed correctly, but both Optus and Hutchison have already signed up for the service and Telstra is currently trialling the service with i-Mode. “In the short term, Nielsen’s ratings data is expected to take a similar form to its internet ratings data, counting page impressions and unique visitors in order to provide an independent view of the popularity of particular content.”
