McLeodUSA, the beleaguered competitive local exchange carrier which has been through bankruptcy once before is shutting down its Texas operations, and apparently has laid off employees from their Austin offices. I have heard that they will shut down their offices in Texas – Austin, Houston, Dallas and San Antonio. I have left a voice mail with their PR people, but I am getting some sort of an automated message. I had posted about McLeodUSA’s continued troubles earlier, and how even bankruptcy protection cannot save them from another round of retrenchment. The company says it is looking for a buyer and other strategic options. McLeodUSA has operations in 25 states and needs to pare back its operations if it even holds a glimmer of hope to find a buyer.
