PlayerX and CNN Mobile will release CNN Business Translator phrase guides for mobile phones this week on Orange in the UK. The CNN Business translator has phrase guides in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish, which contains phrases useful for business travellers such as “Where’s the Hotel?” and “Can I book a table reservation?”, and produces the translations in text and also “pronounced perfectly through the speaker on the handset”. This is useful, but from painful personal experience I know that phrase guides sometimes don’t help that much — it’s all fine and well asking where the hotel is, but if you can’t understand the answer it’s not going to help you very much… Still, it’s good for at least getting the idea of what you want to someone else.
Mutts on Mobiles:FunMail has added “Mutts” comic to mobile phones through Mobile Comics Network. “Comics are of real value to wireless users because they provide a daily flow of engaging premium content,” said FunMail CEO Adam Lavine. “In the comics, art, literature and social commentary are all rolled into one tiny downloadable package that takes under a minute to consume — essentially, perfect wireless content.”

Technis has a product — RecordMe Mobile — that allows you to record mobile phone conversations, and have the resulting file e-mailed to your account or stored on a secure Web site for later review. While this can be useful for a whole range of reasons (business, mobile bullying, recording detailed instructions and so on) there are some potential legal problems. The laws for recording conversations vary from country to country and state to state. Some places require that both people are aware a conversation is being recorded – in which case you’d have to tell everyone you spoke to that you were recording the conversation.
