Alan Karben of XML Team Solutions is live blogging the Fantasy Sports Trade Conference for us…
Here on a self-described “fact-finding mission,” Emil Morrow from Nextel Communications shared with the conference why Nextel has an interest in working more closely with fantasy sports businesses. Nextel’s early successes came in the construction industry, when general contractors who liked the convenience of Nextel’s one-to-one and one-to-many push-to-talk services began requiring their subcontractors to use Nextel as well. So their early successes were due to the viral effects of tight communities needing to communicate regularly.
A typical fantasy league includes a dozen or so managers making player trades and competing for points over a full sports season, or for some shorter timespan. Morrow said Nextel was looking for partnerships that would take advantage of Fantasy Sports’ tight community ties.
Gordon Wilson Of StatsFone then followed with a discussion of their text-to-speech technologies, which can be scheduled to call Fantasy users with voice updates on how their team is performing. StatsFone also offers an interactive mode whereby players can make trades, check standings, and hear relevant injury reports.
