CTIA Day 3

Wireless Content Hype Hides Dark Clouds: “The loudest buzz at this year’s CTIA Wireless show is, as the organizing trade organization puts it, “Wireless Content Is King.” As was the case just before the last wireless bust, though, this claim is little more than the wireless industry whistling past the graveyard.” Melodramatic pessimism? Undoubtedly. But this is needed to balance out the manic hype coming from the mobile content industry. In the end markets almost always fall between these two extremes.
CTIA Builds 7,000 sq ft Wireless Dream Home: This has some very interesting gadgets, but I have a couple of points to make: Cooking the perfect dinner will always take more than just “swiping a bar code”. You cannot properly interact with a baby in a crib wirelessly.
Booming Wireless Paving Way for Spread of Services: The industry can afford to lay the foundation for new services. According to CTIA, the wireless industry had revenues of $52.8 billion for the second half of 2004, up more than 14 percent from the year before.
