Drag And Drop Publisher For Mobiles

Normally I wouldn’t blog the launch of a product, but Trivantis has launched the Zirada Mobile Publisher, a computer-based system for creating mobile pages in a “drag-and-drop” manner. “Users create custom content by dragging and dropping or importing media (such as text, images, and animations) onto a digital canvas. Interactivity is added using a simple actions menu. Content is then automatically published to a mobile phone-ready package in a single click. No programming skills are required. Content is distributed to cell phones via wireless connectivity.” It works on handsets that run the MIDP 1.0 and 2.0 Java environment.

Obviously the ability to create your own mobile web page would appeal to a lot of people. However, the content appears to be sent to other mobiles via the mobile phone network, which means it’s not going to be sent to a lot of people…it’s probably possible to put it on the web somewhere for download but that doesn’t seem to be the main intention. With a list price of $1,295 this is not going to be bought to send clever content to friends and family – someone creating a page for a much wider audience might think it worthwhile, but they’d have to work out distribution. The software appears to be aimed at corporations wanting to create custom mobile pages, for example for mobile workers so that people can easily get information from the main office. Another idea is for people with store fronts to create a mobile page their customers can receive, but that would work best with the page transmitted by bluetooth or IR…
