Interview with Jill Braff of Sorrent

Paul Palumbo has interviewed Jill Braff, VP of marketing for Sorrent, about the mobile game industry. The 25 minute talk covers a wide range of areas, and is well worth listening to for anyone interested in the mobile game market. Some interesting points:

  • Sorrent has four categories of games: sport, established video games, popular culture, casual, and prefers dealing with licencors who have multiple products available rather than doing “one off” deals.
  • It’s best not to rely on a few blockbuster games because they tend to be temporary. Eg, sports games are mainly popular in the sport season, games based on movies can have a very short shelf life and so on.
  • Licencors look for more than just cash, they also look for things such as the companies ability to grow the brand. “I have yet to participate in any licensing situation when it really was just about the money.”
