More comics hit mobiles as games and stuff…

HellblazerMy favorite trickster John Constantine has hit mobile phones in a game from Warner Bros Online. Unsurprisingly the game is based not on the original comic Hellblazer but on the film Constantine – which is pretty good if you pretend it has nothing to do with Hellblazer. Anyway, the 3D game combines roleplaying and exploration as players “embark on an unholy mission to uncover a demonic mastermind”, and has mini-games placed within the main one to “enhance the players experience”, which sounds like giving them a little action. Actually, this would be a good concept to be made into a serial, with people that finish the first game being able to move onto a second scenario while keeping whatever bonuses they got in the first. There’s also a bunch of other Constantine-based mobile content available… More info here

In addition to the amoral crusader against everything Archie is also coming to your mobile. Indian mobile game publisher Nazara has secured the worldwide rights “for content based on Archie Comics characters, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Reggie and, of course, Archie”. Nazara will get access to 60 years worth of Archie archives and will develope games, wallpapers, screensavers, MMS greeting cards and comic panels or strips. If they play their cards right this could turn into a big deal, since even people who didn’t like Archie comics know about them and would buy content if it was done right…perhaps slightly ironically…

Madagascar (the DreamWorks movie) also has a game based on it to be released in summer from Eurofun called Madagascar: Going Wild. In the game players guide Alex (I haven’t seen the movie so I don’t know who that is) in a quest to find Marty (I don’t know who that is, either) and will have to solve numerous puzzles. The game does have one interesting feature, the moves the character can do include “Roar and a unique Broadway style move – “Ta Daa!” that is used for stunning enemies.” I’ve always wanted to do something like “Ta-Daa!” after finishing something particularly hard in a game…

A new game that has nothing to do with the comics is the mobile multiplayer version of the racing game Lotus Challenge. Kuju Wireless has used “Terraplay MOVE to bring real-time interaction capabilities to the game”. I don’t know how many people can play or how the games are set up, but the multiplayer part sounds cool. I wonder if there’s a lag for people on different networks? The game is available at launch for Nokia, Motorola and Sharp handsets with others to follow shortly.
