Mobile music revenues could top $9B in next four years

Juniper Research has predicted that total mobile music revenues will reach $9.3 billion by 2009. Ringtones and master tones are predicted to reach $4.8 billion by 2009, more than nine times what was predicted for 2005 by BMI. Full-track downloads are predicted to surge from just $20 million in 2004 to $1.8 billion within five years. In a related vein, Canadian MuchMusic has announced selling over 1.5 million tracks since launching in 2004. Ringtonia pointed to a Canadian article discussing the change from ringtones to truetones, and why the music labels are excited about it (getting a piece of digital music action).
