Refer-X has launched a service where people can get rewarded for recommending content (games, at the moment) to their friends. “We only know of one study in South Korea which showed that over 40% of the market for cellular phone games was based on referrals,” says Ocshe. “This makes viral marketing the number one channel – and it’s currently neither incentivised nor measured.” I think this is likely to be a popular method of promoting mobile content, despite effectively adding someone into the value chain, and it will reward the people who actually do most of the marketing.
