“Faster downloads make it more likely that customers will use the new services being introduced with 3G…” An interesting article on HSPDA, the next standard for data downloads, has pointed out that the introduction of the new technology will require very little investment on the part of the operators, “with the main change being a relatively easy upgrade of the software on their UMTS towers.” Of course, HSPDA capable handsets also have to be on the market, but if the upgrade is as simple as the article claims operators should be offering it as soon as possible. Nevertheless, the operators seem reluctant to predict the introduction of the service while the handset manufacturers are very optimistic.
