Where will it end? Picturephoning.com has linked to an article about a couple of companies teaming up in Japan to put barcodes on chocolate bars. The idea is that people can take a picture of the barcodes with their mobile cameras and thereby gain access to a website. This technology has already been proposed to allow consumers to get information on particular products, but I’m not sure what benefit is derived from putting the barcode on the chocolate rather than inside the wrapper. Maybe we’ll be seeing barcodes on hamburgers soon…
