“While Visa and Mastercard charge approximately 5% for handling a transaction, premium rate billing offered by mobile operators costs the campaigning party as much as 35%…” The writer also points out it takes 60-90 days for the content provider to receive payment, which stifles development – but is inevitable considering the post-pay nature of many mobile accounts. I’m not sure the operators can be compared to credit card companies since they maintain a greater portion of the infrastructure used in the transaction. Nevertheless, I agree that taking a third of the revenue is unlikely to be a desirable solution for anyone in the long term (even the carriers, who would make more money charging less for a vastly increased transaction rate).
