Shazam and SDC partner for “tag-and-download” music service

Shazam and SDC have joined up to “enable mobile operators to offer subscribers the ability to tag, purchase and download a track over a mobile handset in three simple steps. Users will now be able to download licensed music directly to mobile phones for playback and storage, without even having to know the name of the artist or title of the song.” Shazam offers the ability to recognize a song by playing it down the phone line – for example if a song is on the radio you can dial a shortcode, play the music and receive an SMS with song title and artist. SDC provides a java-based DRM solution required to convince record labels to sell music to consumers, and in a nice move “music tracks can be copied legally from a mobile to a PC enabling music fans to share content between multiple devices and platforms”.
