MTV Networks Digital Music Group: Director, Music Programming, NYC

MTV Networks is seeking a Director, Music Programming for its Digital Music Group. The Director’s primary responsibility will be to program and deliver a best-in-class and exclusive consumer experience in MTV Networks’ digital music service. In this capacity, the Director will lead the music programming team to create original programming and editorial content across a variety of genres of music, and will interface with MTV Networks channels (e.g., MTV, VH1, CMT) to source, coordinate and package channel programming for the digital music service. The Director will report to the VP Digital Music.

Specific duties will include:

– Lead and manage the Digital Music Programming and Editorial team

– Develop and execute the overall programming strategy and plan; create world-class music programming content and services

– Set overall programming and editorial direction for Digital Music

– Oversee program planning and scheduling

– Develop and oversee music promotions for the Digital Music Group

– Collaborate with Product group to plan and integrate programming and commerce initiatives

– Work with existing Channel Label Relations department to ensure strong label relationships that deliver value and demonstrate the benefits of working with the digital music service

– Collaborate with multiple Channels’ On-Air Programming to create innovative ways of integrating digital music services with on-air programs (e.g., video programming, music theme weeks/weekends, live performance specials, artist-based stunts)

– Work with existing Channel Marketing, Promotions, and Music & Talent to manage additional music promotion on-air and online

– Collaborate with the Wireless team to develop programming for cell phones and devices

– Research and advise on new developments in digital music to help position MTV Networks at the forefront of the industry

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

– A highly creative music expert with diverse programming and editorial sensibility, and a deep passion for all things music

– Minimum 5 years experience creating and programming music content, editorial, and commerce services (or similar experience)

– A proven leader and team player who excels in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment

– In-depth understanding of digital platforms for music delivery (new media)

– Working knowledge of online music technologies and issues (e.g., digital rights management, music file formats, streaming media, Internet radio, etc.)

– Working knowledge of and program management for online systems and interfaces. Familiarity with HTML, database management, Visio and other Web production technologies.

– Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with staff at all levels

– Excellent written and oral communication skills
