Mobile music booming in Japan

The latest Eurotechnology newsletter has reported that music related content sales in Japan are doing very well. “Less than 80 days after introduction KDDI/AU counted 2 million Chaku-Uta-Full downloads of full songs: mobile music enjoys big and increasing demand. Most carriers are offering innovation on the mobile music front. Music on i-mode is approximately a US$ 1-2 billion per year market for content fees, not counting secondary spending such as media and headphones and handsets. Brick-and-mortar business via i-mode and mobile internet is taking off strongly.” Not surprisingly, a lot of content companies have reportedly raised a bit of money with IPO’s and are busy expanding internationally…
Also: There is a prediction of 40 million 3G users in Japan by the end of the year.
