Wired News: Sales Director

Wired News seeks a dynamic, seasoned Sales Director who can,
through superior leadership, management and mentoring, consistently drive
his/her team to achieve or exceed quota for this industry-leading site. This
key individual will play a significant role in the company by providing
leadership, strategy and coordination for the sales force.

This position will work closely with Wired News’ General Manager, as well as
production, editorial and business leads, to craft sales solutions that lead
the industry while respecting product integrity. We have an aggressive
project plan for 2005 and beyond, and need the right leader to help us
achieve our goals.

A successful candidate must have:

– 8+ years in outside sales/sales management experience in an online
advertising community

– Proven management skills

– Ability to work effectively across business units, such as marketing,
editorial, production, business and finance

– Proven record of generating revenue by meeting annual and quarterly sales
quotas

– Strong contacts in the online advertising community

– Outstanding presentation skills with the ability to create top-notch sales
support material

– Tracking of sales and sales activity to identify trends and opportunities
and produce status reports upon request

– Must be confident, competitive, thorough and tenacious and posses a bias
toward assertiveness

– Proven record of building, training and directing an industry-leading
sales team from the ground up:

- Will hire and train a dedicated team of sales reps and associates
at the outset

- Will set strategy and tactical action plans

- Will set and manage weekly, monthly and quarterly quotas

- Will work with the Wired News team to develop a media kit and
sales programs to bring to market
