Wireless Review is declaring a truce in the wireless content wars amongst the content providers and telecom oeprators (in U.S.), though I am less hopeful. According to Qpass CEO Chase Franklin, the carriers have begun to realize they aren’t entertainment companies. But most important, they’ve begun to realize that they can be entertainment enablers, indispensable to the distribution of these games and music without necessary hand-picking and controlling every byte that traverses their networks…
Some other interesting figures: Sprint’s go-it-alone approach in tying up directly with content providers (as opposed to going with aggregators) has paid dividends. While its competitors are recording 4 percent of their revenues on data, Sprint’s Java-based service is pulling in double that figure.
Ultimately, a good roundup story on the prevailing sentiment in the industry…
