BBC halts TV over mobile video due to shortcode restrictions

The BBC has delayed plans to launch a TV highlights service using shortcodes because of concerns that only 3UK customers would be able to use the service. “We didn’t want one single operator to use the content as a differentiator in the market,” said Angel Gambino, BBC controller of business development and emerging platforms. The BBC is working to get cross-network shortcodes in place so it can ramp up the mobile video content that’s available. I’m just not sure why the BBC is so concerned about giving the operator with the best technology a boost. Surely it should be worried about creating and offering good BBC branded content and let the telcos get on with ensuring their networks are up to scratch.
