The US military is working out how to take wireless into the battlefield, and since they fact pretty much the same problems they always have it’s unsurprising the system looks a lot like the Internet, except portable. “The engineers have had to design a network girded by several points, or nodes, formed by hundreds of military vehicles…Each military vehicle becomes a transmitter, relaying data over multiple channels simultaneously, and detecting each other automatically to form a data-sharing web.” The technology is described as “a generation or two” ahead of the commercial technology, and shouldn’t be overlooked as a possible future of the wireless industry – and therefore the wireless content market.
