From celluloid to cellular

By all accounts Indians are going crazy over mobile phones, and mobile phone content. Actress Madhuri Dixit now has her own avatar, and mobile content companies are using the popularity of Bollywood to sell their wares. “That is not all. Based on the all-time favourite film, for the first time, traditional Indian games such as ‘hide the shoe’, ‘pass the pillow’ have been recreated for the mobile phone users. Within a month of their launch, the games have registered 10,000 downloads at Rs 150 a piece.” I’m not sure which film is being refered to, and I don’t know how to play the games mentioned. But it’s interesting that traditional games, which can often die out – especially amongst the younger generations – are being revived on the latest technology. Tradition for the future…
