Cingular Wireless is getting pretty serious about the whole 3G thing – it has tested High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) technology in tandem with Lucent Technologies and has achieved downstream speeds of 3 megabits per second, according to Mobile Pipeline. The HSDPA theoretically technology that, proponents claim, will offer theoretical data speeds as high as 14.4 Mbps. HSDPA is an extension of UMTS 3G technology, which Cingular has said it plans to role out in the next two years, the report says. The tests were conducted in Atlanta.
