Despite a strong demand for pornography and violent video games, mobile telcos in the US are veering away from offering them on their network. The concern is a boycott by conservative groups in the US. The nations largest carrier, Cingular Wireless, has reportedly dropped a service offering pictures of porn stars for $5.99, even though the women were fully clothed. While I can see their concern of facing a boycott, they may end up deciding that the risk is worth it. When I looked through the Australian version of ‘3’ recently, the most popular picture download was of a pretty girl in a Santa hat whose dignity was preserved only by the judicious placement of a string of tinsel. “Adult content will be a nontrivial source of revenue going forward,” Mr. Golvin said, noting that Asian carriers already are seeing significant contributions to sales.”
