Useful SMS applications

Proving that you don’t need the latest technology to provide a useful service, textually.org has linked to a couple of stories about mobile applications that utilise SMS. The Emirates Telecommunications Corporation has launched a service which provides a translation between english and arabic, all done via SMS. The telco teamed up with Sakhr Software Co, which operates online translation site ajeeb.com.
Meanwhile, an english company offers a service which sends step-by-step directions via SMS “to and from street names, postal codes, freeways, gas stations, towns or cities”.
