According to Bango the average 3G user spends approximately 60% more than the users of older mobile phone technology. They claim the most popular content is – rather unsurprisingly – content tailored for the capabilities of 3G phones, which can be sold at a premium. “3G network operators that encourage and enable open access and easy browsing will benefit most of all from increased consumer activity,” said Ray Anderson, Bango CEO. Of course, considering Bango owns a technology that can be used by third-party content providers to get their content to the handset, Anderson has an interest in discouraging the walled garden approach to mobile content that is used by some telcos.
