The Telecommunications Management Group has predicted that there will be 110 million people worldwide who will use mobile devices to download images, exchange picture messages or access the internet in 2004 – people it dubs mobile multimedia users. This figure rises from 86 million in 2003. “Though Japan and South Korea claimed 75% of this market in 2000, the countries’ share of the pie fell to 57% by the end of this year. TMG estimates mobile multimedia usage and text messaging generated $45 billion in revenues for mobile operators.” Th e top mobile multimedia users are Japan (29.5% of the population), South Korea (24.8%) and France (10.5%).
