New Wireless World Forum research has predicts there will be 45 million 3G subscribers world-wide by the end of the year, rising to 84 million in 2005. However, the report recommends that if telcos want to expand their 3G subscribers they should stop looking to the example of Hutchison and focus instead on Japan, which automatically upgrades consumers to 3G when they renew their handset.
