Tegic has released a new version of its T9 predictive text software, which allows users to type an SMS in more than one language without having to manually change the language used. “For example, if a Spanish user types in “buenos dias! How are you today?” T9 software will recognise that the user is switching from Spanish to English in the same conversation and will instantly predict the most probable words, saving users both time and keystrokes.”
I think this is a fantastic idea, and not just because I live in Mexico with only a semi-grasp of spanish. People are beginning to interact more and more with people from other countries and cultures, and this will make it easier to communicate. Many people already switch between different languages in the same sentence while talking.
