3G standards need to interoperate

More wireless players are talking up the concept of unifying competing wireless broadband technologies – 3G, Wi-Fi, WiMAX, etc – into multiple-access wireless networks. The trick will be to apply it to cdma2000 and W-CDMA services. While this would be great, there are still a whole lot of hurdles to overcome.
“There’s this free-wheeling assumption that convergence is going to be seamless, but roaming between them is still not happening seamlessly, and even SMS interoperability doesn’t always work. If you can’t even get SMS to work, then this seamless convergence idea is a little far-fetched.”
